Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed relations between the two countries, as well as regional issues.
This is stated in a statement by the Office of Communications of the President of Turkey, reports Daily Sabah.
"During the talks, regional themes and issues were discussed that will improve Turkish-Ukrainian relations," the Erdogan administration said.
The phone call came amid a warning from the United States that Russia may be planning incursions into Ukraine as Moscow builds up its forces on the western border.
Recently, US officials including Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the Pentagon said they were closely monitoring the military build-up, but Bloomberg reported that the Biden administration went further and formally warned allies against the European Union of a possible Russian military offensive.
Shortly after the notification, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday warned Russia that the Western military alliance was siding with Ukraine amid an unusual deployment of Russian troops on Ukraine's borders.
Turkey, a NATO member, criticized Moscow's annexation of Crimea and pledged support for Ukraine's territorial integrity. The United States and the UN General Assembly also consider the annexation illegal.
